In 2002, Sohar Industrial Port Company was established by the Government of Oman to manage the industrial area and develop the sea port into a world class facility. In 2010 the Government of Oman signed a 50:50 joint venture agreement with the Port of Rotterdam to manage the port activities and also made it an economic Free-zone. 4500 hectares industrial area with a world class sea port and soon to be Oman’s main commercial port attracted many international investors to Sohar. ASI’s shareholders saw this as an opportunity to contribute to growth of their beloved homeland – Oman and thus decided to start in 2013.
